The Italian Way of Celebrating Easter Sunday

Buon giorno, amici!

We are all familiar with the famous ways on how to celebrate Easter Sunday.

There is the usual Easter Egg Hunt, in other places, Easter Rabbits become the talk of the town. While others celebrate it as solemn as possible.

Being an Italian-inspired community, we want our homeowners in Ponticelli to really feel the culture and tradition of the beautiful country that is Italy.

Check out these ideas on how Italians celebrate Easter Sunday!

Easter Food in Italy

Sacrifice and reserve is required every Lenten Season. So, every Easter, which is the end of the Holy Week, Easter food or food in general becomes one of the biggest players in the celebration.

Traditional Easter foods in Italy vary and may include lamb, artichokes, and Easter breads that are specially made from one region to another.

Italians also give our breads such as Pannetone and Colomba (dove shaped bread) as gifts and even chocolate eggs with an extra surprise on the inside.

Easter Monday in Italy: La Pasquetta

It may sound odd but Italy also celebrates Easter on a Monday, it is referred to as La Pasquetta.

On this day, cities hold games (usually involving eggs), dances, and free concerts.

There is also a cheese-wheel race being held in Panicale which is called Ruzzolone.
